NDRRMC to validate 7 reported deaths due to recent cyclones

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) says on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, that it is validating the nine reported deaths due to the onslaught of recent tropical cyclones in the country. MANILA, Philippines — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Wednesday it is validating the nine reported deaths due to the onslaught of recent tropical cyclones in the country.

In a situational report of the agency issued at 8 a.m. on Nov. 20, the NDRRMC also disclosed that the number of people affected by cyclones Nika (international name: Toraji), Ofel (international name: Usagi), and Pepito (international name: Man-yi) increased to 3,031,171 people or 820,831 families as of their last counting.

Of the total, 442,857 were displaced – including 288,566 in evacuation centers and 154,291 outside evacuation sites and seeking shelter elsewhere.

The NDRRMC said their tally of the typhoon-affected population was from Region 1 (Ilocos), Region 2 (Cagayan Valley), Region 3 (Central Luzon), Region 4A (Calabarzon), Region 4B (Mimaropa), Region 5 (Bicol), and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

The NDRRMC further revealed that another city had been placed under a state of calamity following the assault of the tropical cyclones, bringing the total to 21.

To help the affected communities, the agency said the government has so far rolled out P143,029,819 worth of aid.

Nika left the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on November 12, while Ofel and Pepito exited the PAR on November 17 and November 18, respectively.
